Deb D'Elia has been with dogs her whole life. Sharing her knowledge and love of dog training with her students is her passion and her love and enthusiasm for training is contagious! Whether training your dog to be a well behaved pet, teaching tricks or schooling for obedience competition, Deb shows you how easy it is once you learn the few key guidelines for success. Deb has been a life long animal lover who has shared her life with dogs, cats, and horses. Her sons never knew what it would be like without multiple animals in their lives. At one time an avid horse woman, Deb hung up her bridle and saddle for the last time in 1992 and has since dedicated her time to training dogs. Although she has dabbled in agility, herding and tracking with her dogs, obedience is clearly her love.

Deb has been fortunate to have worked with two of the east coast's top trainers which has enabled her to successfully compete in obedience competitions with her own dogs and to understand the complex behaviors that go along with high levels of obedience. She stays current with all of the latest training techniques through on going education, membership in professional organizations and by attending working seminars.
Deb is an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, is certified by the American Safety & Health Institute in pet first aid and is a member of The Golden Retriever Club of America. She has taught all levels of obedience from Puppy Kindergarten and Canine Good Citizen Prep Courses to AKC Competition classes at the Northern NJ German Shepherd Dog Club and at the First Dog Training Club of Northern NJ. Although her own competition schedule is quite demanding, Deb always finds time for private lessons with pet owners. There is nothing more rewarding to her than to help a new pet owner get on the path of truly enjoying their dog!

Deb's training philosophy:
Dogs are pack animals and in a natural setting would live in a well defined hierarchy. Even after thousands of years of domestication, dogs still think like pack animals; they are not furry four legged people. Common behavior problems occur when your "rank" in the pack is not clearly defined for your dog and they do not respect or trust you as a fair leader. Deb will identify for you the every day things that you do that undermine your status in the pack. She will show you how to elevate your rank by reinforcing positive behaviors and by giving you the tools to know how to humanely disagree with unwanted ones. Deb will teach you how to think like your dog so that a clear and harmonious communication can be developed. She does not condone heavy handed dog training because she does not believe that it achieves the desired results.
